Keloid Scars
A keloid is an enlarged thick scar raised above the skin surface. Although there is no known cause, keloid tendency seems to run in families. Dark-skinned individuals are more prone to form keloids than people who are fair-skinned. Keloids are equally common in both sexes and are less common in children and the elderly. In some cases, Keloids may develop on any part of the body; however the central chest and upper back are especially prone to keloid formation. Aside from causing potential cosmetic problems, these exuberant scars tend to be itchy, tender or even painful to the touch.
