Fraxel Laser
Fraxel laser treatment at Greenbrae Dermatology is a non-invasive treatment that uses a laser beam divided into thousands of microscopic beams that target a fraction of the skin at a time. Over time, our skin becomes damaged by unavoidable exposure to the sun, air pollution, stress, fatigue, smoking, and age-related challenges. All of these stressors cause damage and keep us from looking as good on the outside as we may feel on the inside.
Fraxel is the gold standard for laser skin rejuvenation treatments. It bridges the gap between the ablative and non-ablative laser techniques used to treat sun-damaged and aging skin. Ablative laser treatments work mainly on the superficial skin cells and non-ablative treatments work solely on deeper skin layers, fractional laser treatment works at both of these levels. The Fraxel laser produces thousands of tiny columns to treat your skin. The Fraxel laser allows our board-certified dermatologists to treat your areas of concerns – one area at a time – without damaging surrounding areas. The Fraxel laser is so advanced that it penetrates deep into the dermis without affecting untargeted surrounding areas.*
Why should I choose Fraxel laser resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing addresses many of the most common signs of aging that have been treated traditionally with surgery. The technologies behind laser treatments work with your skin’s natural processes and minimize downtime and recovery.* Additionally, our team of board-certified dermatologists has worked with Fraxel laser technology for years, giving us total expertise in its use and nuances.
How does Fraxel laser skin resurfacing work?
Laser energy has been used for many years to fight the signs of aging. Lasers work by protecting untreated skin from damage while applying laser energy only to the targeted layers of your skin. New skin cells form after treatment, and your fine lines and wrinkles slowly fade away.*
Is the procedure painful?
During your Fraxel laser procedure, you will be given either a topical or local anesthetic. After the procedure, most patients describe the discomfort as similar to a mild sunburn, which subsides quickly.*
How long will it take to heal?
Recovery after your Fraxel laser resurfacing treatment can take less than a week for lighter resurfacing procedures, and up to several weeks for deeper procedures. After treatment, you will be asked to keep the area moist. The initial redness after the procedure will fade over a period of time; however, camouflage makeup may be used to cover the redness.* There is no downtime after Fraxel Restore resurfacing.*
How soon will I see results?
Clinical studies suggest that a gradual improvement of wrinkled, sun-damaged skin can be achieved with three to seven Fraxel Restore laser treatments, spaced at one to four-week intervals.
*Disclaimer, results may vary from person to person.
