What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a facial skin rejuvenation technique in which many tiny sterile needles are used on a small area of the skin. The tiny pinpricks stimulate recovery mechanisms in the skin, increasing the production of collagen by fibroblasts.*

By encouraging the body’s own repair mechanisms, microneedling is an effective technique for skin rejuvenation. There are home devices on the market but at Greenbrae Dermatology, we advise against using these because of the risk of introducing infection. Microneedling at our office is always done by highly trained medical staff, giving you complete peace of mind.

The device used to deliver microneedling looks a bit like a pen – the tip contains the tiny needles and is used to target specific areas of skin. The fine lines around the eyes and the upper lip, for example, can improve considerably after microneedling treatment.*

Microneedling is also used by our dermatologists to treat fine lines and wrinkles as well as shallow acne scars. Other treatments are recommended for deeper scars, such as the ice pick scars, that can result from acne.
